Plastic is everywhere—even in our blood. Still think it’s harmless?

India is stepping into a new era of sustainability and the biopolymer industry is leading the way. Some truly groundbreaking developments are happening right now that could change the future of plastic and our planet.

Balrampur Chini Mills is currently building a massive plant that will produce 80,000 tons of PLA (Polylactic Acid) per year. This is one of the largest initiatives in India aimed at producing a fully compostable, plant-based plastic alternative.

At the same time, Praj Industries has joined hands with global leader Thyssenkrupp to offer end-to-end PLA technology, starting right from sugar to finished PLA. This means more companies can now enter the biopolymer industry with full support, reducing technical barriers.

Meanwhile, Reliance Industries, one of the biggest industrial giants in India, is gearing up to start PBAT (Polybutylene Adipate Terephthalate) manufacturing. PBAT is another important biodegradable plastic that works well in flexible packaging.

States like Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, and even a dedicated eco-zone in Junagadh, Gujarat have banned plastic/PET bottles, both in manufacturing and sales. This bold step reflects the seriousness of India’s fight against plastic pollution.

What’s more, entrepreneurs across the country are starting their own biodegradable/compostable product setups. It’s no longer a niche industry, it’s becoming mainstream.

Today, almost every plastic product manufacturer is exploring how to replace traditional plastic with eco-friendly materials. At Deltora Biopolymers, we are proud to be a part of this shift. We help plastic product manufacturers switch to biodegradable and compostable products without changing their existing machines, making the transition easy, affordable, and effective.

The need for this change has never been more urgent. Plastic pollution is everywhere—on land, in our oceans, in the air, and even in our bodies as microplastics. What was once a convenience has now become a global threat. If we don't act now, the damage will be irreversible.

The situation is clear, it’s an environmental emergency. We must stop using plastic and adopt cleaner, greener alternatives.

Let’s be part of the solution, not the pollution.

The future is compostable. The future is now.
